How We Got Here

How Play Another Slow Jam Was Born
Every great idea starts with a moment that was never planned. Play Another Slow Jam was no different.
PASJ was founded by Richie and Taurean, but its roots trace back to an impromptu moment at the end of a Slow Jamz event. As the night was winding down, the promoter turned to Richie with a simple request. Play another thirty minutes.
Without hesitation, Richie stepped back up to the decks.
What followed was not just an extension of the night, but an unplanned tune for tune exchange that completely shifted the energy in the room. The crowd locked in, reactions grew louder, and by the end of the set, Richie had clearly come out on top. It was one of those moments where instinct, selection, and timing aligned perfectly.
The moment did not end there.
Richie posted a snippet of the exchange in the days that followed. That short clip travelled quickly, sparking conversations and reactions online. When Taurean saw it, the idea clicked instantly. What if that moment was not a one off, but a format. What if slow jams could be treated as a competitive arena rather than background music.
That snippet became the spark.
From there, Richie and Taurean sat down for several conversations. They discussed structure, rules, and the possibility of building something intentional around slow jam culture. Those meetings laid the foundation for what would become Play Another Slow Jam (PASJ).The rest, as they say, speaks for itself.
PASJ was never forced into existence. It grew naturally from a moment of instinct, confidence, and crowd response. A reminder that sometimes the best ideas are born when music is allowed to lead the way.
And from that single request to play another thirty minutes, a whole movement followed.
